Exam Time Services
Maddie is a fourth-year Bachelor of Arts student in Communications and Media Studies.
Exam Time doesn’t have to suck when you’re a Carleton Student
There is a lot offered to us as students at Carleton, whether that’s on campus services or great spots off campus. I’ve made a list of helpful services and sweet study spots for you!
Quiet Study Floors, Library
Some people need complete quietness, no noise at all to study. If that’s you, floors three and five at the library are the spot for you. Get in your zone and get your work done!
The fourth floor of the library has a lot to offer to Carleton students!
Discovery Center, Fourth floor Library
Working on group presentation? Like to chat with friends over your class lecture notes? In the discovery center, noise is welcomed. It’s a great place to work together with friends and see the results that collaborative studying can give you!
Center for Student Academic Support, Subject Coaching
Want a free tutor? CSAS offers free one on one assistance in the subjects that you may be having trouble with. Drop in to the session that applies to you, and relieve some of your exam stress. If you can’t make it to campus, you can meet with a coach on Big Blue Button, at home, in your pajamas!
Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS)
Remember your first week of classes when a PASS facilitator introduced them and told you all the great benefits of PASS workshops? I hope so, because PASS is super helpful! If you’ve been going all semester long, or you’ve just been dropping in to weeks that have you troubled, you probably agree! And if you’ve never attended, don’t worry! You still can just in time for mock exams. PASS facilitators are working alongside your professors all semester long and offer you a practice exam and take up session, PASS supports so many courses, from biology to communications, check out what students think about PASS, download past and current worksheets and find out when your mock exam is!
International Student Service Office, 1st floor University Center
The ISSO offers events and services all year long for International students.
To relieve stress this exam season, take a trip with the ISSO to Parliament for the Christmas Lights across Canada light show on Wednesday December 7 from 5:00 to 9:00pm. Dress warmly and bring your U-Pass, and a camera! There will be free hot chocolate, and a free beaver tail, what a great study break!
As always, the ISSO team is available to help any and all students with exam period questions and concerns!
Off Campus Spots
It’s always nice not to go to campus, especially when classes are over, right? Here are a few of my favorite (off campus) near by spots!
Want an off-campus Starbucks? There’s a lot!
Starbucks, Bank and Hopewell, Bank and Third in the glebe, Bank and Elgin
The Glebe, just one bus away! (Take the 7 St. Laurent)
Bridgehead, Bank and Second
Homemade soups, salads and sandwiches, and they even have toast at breakfast time! If you’re tired of Starbucks, Bridgehead is an awesome choice to enjoy some breakfast, lunch and coffee while getting work done!
Pure Gelato, 834 Bank Street in the Glebe (at Fifth avenue)
Studying with a crepe is pretty sweet; studying with gelato is even better! Good news, you can have both at Pure Gelato along with free Wi-Fi, coffee and tea.
Not your neck of the woods? Pure Gelato is also located on Elgin Street
Close your books for the night and head to House of Targ, 1077 Bank Street
Want a night out? Eat perogies, play pinball and classic arcade games while enjoying live music at House of Targ. Its also located beside the best chip truck in Ottawa, for your late night snack, even after perogies!
